Project Management and Teamwork

"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."
-Henry Ford

Teamwork is a huge part of the MCC dental hygiene program. We were split into teams/groups in which we performed many projects together to learn the importance of teamwork. Working in a team taught me how to work with different personalities, how to communicate effectively with others, how to overcome problems, and how to put all of our strengths together to accomplish projects.

For one of the projects that I did with my team, we went into a dental office and interviewed the doctor on their emergency protocol. We observed their office and provided them with advice on what they could do to improve their emergency protocol in their office. During this project, we split up the responsibilities between our team to complete this project in an effective and efficient manner. Our Emergency Protocol paper can be viewed HERE

As a team, we also planned a community project where we went to Power Ranch Elementary school. Here we presented a video that we created about nutrition and oral hygiene to all of the 6th grade students. After the video, we let them ask us any questions that they had about oral hygiene, the dental hygiene career, nutrition, etc. They really seemed to benefit from this educational experience as did we. It was fun to see how excited and curious they were about oral health during this project. Each one of our team members played a huge role in planning and putting this project together.

During my second year of dental hygiene school, my team created a community project at the MCC Early Childhood Care Center. Here we all worked hard to come up with who our target group would be, as well as assessments and education to this group.
