Ethics

I believe that it is the responsibility of the dental hygienist to act in an ethical manner in every situation that he or she is put in. It is important for the dental hygienist to be able to identify and evaluate ethical issues during interactions with patients and the dental team and to be able to choose ethically sound decisions. Acting in an ethical manner involves putting the patient's oral health and well being above all else. This is crucial in working in a dental practice.

During my dental hygiene program I learned all about ethical theories and philosophies. I believe that knowing these and being able to identify them during situations will assist me in acting in an ethical manner in a dental office.

I had the opportunity to attend the Arizona Board of Dental Examiners meeting in February 2013. During this meeting I observed the board use the ethical decision making model to make decisions. HERE is my reflection on the BODEX meeting.
